Inside airline

The heart of the Lufthansa Group lies in the fascinating world of aviation. ProTeam immerses participants in this unique realm, exploring strategic aspects, airline expertise, and flight operations through real-life experiences.

  • The program includes several weeks of onboarding and visits to our subsidiaries (Eurowings, Austrian Airlines, Swiss Airlines, Lufthansa Systems, Lufthansa Cargo, Lufthansa Technik).
  • During Airport Week, you will be part of our ground operations, engaging in passenger service and flight handling at Frankfurt International Airport.
  • Experience life as a flight attendant during the Crew Experience Flight.
  • Engage in a General Airline Management Simulation game.
  • Participate in Airline Process Know-How Training.

Are you interested in preparing the Lufthansa Group for the upcoming EU AI Act? How about taking on the challenge of developing and implementing new strategies in Passenger Experience Procurement for Lufthansa Airlines? Would you be excited to lead a brand activation project aimed at connecting Eurowings employees to a fresh brand identity?

  • ProTeam offers a unique opportunity where you can handpick projects from various business units and subsidiaries based on your preferences.
  • You will have the chance to work on four individual projects for about 3 – 4 months.
  • While three of your projects are based in Germany, one can be chosen abroad. This will provide you with fascinating insights into a global corporation that strives to be a driving force in advancing the aviation industry, promoting sustainable air travel, and fostering connections between diverse cultures and economies.

PART 1:
Onboarding / deep dive Lufthansa Group 4 weeks

Welcome to ProTeam, welcome to the Lufthansa Group! You will get to know each other and the Lufthansa Group.

Practical project / assignment #1

You will work on a specific project in an area of your choice.

PART 2:
Airline process knowledge and ground operations experience
2 weeks

Airport week: you will go behind the scenes at Frankfurt Airport, get to know Lufthansa's operations base and get insight into ground operations. Including spending 1 or 2 days working as cabin crew. Airline process knowledge (seminar and business game): A 2-day seminar will teach you the most important details of airline processes. In the business game, you will spend 3 days acting as a virtual airline boss, and experience the impacts of your decisions first hand.

ProInnovation - seek Inspiration and Bring Innovation to the Lufthansa Group 
2 days

During this phase, you'll have the opportunity to gather fresh insights and inspiration on the topic of innovations from external sources. Often, this will involve working in tandem with an experienced manager or colleague. The knowledge and ideas you gain—whether from attending conferences, engaging with start-ups, or other innovative environments—will be brought back and integrated into the Lufthansa Group. This approach ensures that we stay at the forefront of industry developments, continuously pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.

ProResponsibility
2 weeks

You will leave the world of Lufthansa behind and support a social project led by our aid organisation "help alliance".

PART 3:
Self-reflection - a week of reflection and growth in a monastery
1 week

Immerse yourself in a unique experience, spending a week in a tranquil monastery setting. During this time, you will engage in both individual and group discussions, allowing you to delve deeply into self-reflection and connect meaningfully with your ProTeam group. The week will be guided by experienced coaches, who will support and challenge you to explore new perspectives and insights. This retreat is designed to foster personal growth, strengthen team bonds, and provide a space for profound learning and development.

The agile team task: you will work together as a team to solve a particular task, and will present your workable result to management.

Authentic encounters of our trainees

Airportweek: Malhi from Generation 37 is assisting our ground operations team at the check-in counter at Frankfurt International Airport. Whether you prefer a window seat or an aisle seat, he is committed to ensuring you have a comfortable and enjoyable flight experience.

Airportweek: Tomas from Generation 37 has completed the flight handling for the Bogota-bound flight at the gate, working alongside our dedicated ground operations team. He is now en route to handle the next flight.

Airportweek: Zara's bringing some lightness to our apron action, supporting our ramp agents. It might seem a bit hefty, but she's turning the workload into a playful dance:-)

Airportweek: While Zara is diligently at work, Tomas has already wrapped up his flight and seized the opportunity for a cheeky selfie with one of our ramp agents, adding a delightful twinkle to his day.

Airportweek: Celine is stationed at the gate, inviting passengers to board for Milan: "auguriamo un piacevole volo con Lufthansa".

Experience flight: David visibly takes pleasure in his work as a flight attendant for a day and proudly displays his enthusiasm.

Online application

The next application phase is expected to begin on January 6, 2025, and will be open for approximately two weeks until January 19, 2025. We will announce the exact dates here in due time. The link to apply will be provided on this website and on lufthansagroup.careers.

Video interview

Are we a good fit? Once you have successfully passed the tests, the subsequent step involves a 30-minute virtual MS TEAMS interview consisting of four questions.

Applicant day

If there is a mutual sense of compatibility, you will receive an invitation to attend one of our three applicant days in person. These applicant days consist of a cognitive test, practical task, and an interview. The applicant days are expected to take place during the first week of March 2025. Please ensure that you keep these dates available, as we are unable to offer alternative dates.

Which Lufthansa Group companies are taking part in ProTeam?

ProTeam is a group-wide initiative. Meaning that all Lufthansa Group companies are taking part. Special feature: you choose the subsidiaries and business units in which you would like to have your practical project assignments.

How is ProTeam structured, and how long does the program last?

ProTeam will run for 18 months and, as the name suggests, focuses mainly on the significance and advancement of the team. Which is why there are collaborative team projects in between your individual project assignments.

Why will I spend a week in a monastery as part of ProTeam?

The week spent in a monastery is a very special experience. There is no other place like it that can provide the perfect environment for retreat and reflection. With professional guidance, individual and group discussions will help you get to know each other and your team dynamic better.

Am I able to choose my projects / assignments?

Yes. And with good reason: ProTeam is not your average, one size fits all trainee program. We want to advance you and your particular strengths and preferences. It is precisely this diversity that we are looking for. Which is why you will have access to the entire Lufthansa Group.

What will I earn during the trainee program?

The annual salary is 58,000 euros pro rata.

What will I earn after the trainee program?

Your starting salary after completing the ProTeam trainee program: 63,000 euros plus a variable remuneration component (bonus); depending on your professional experience before your trainee period, further payments may be added.

What type of employment contract will I receive?

You will receive a permanent employment contract directly from the company, including all associated benefits.

How much annual leave will I have, and can I choose my days off without any limitations?

You will receive 30 days annual leave per year. 

Who can apply for the program?

Anyone who has a master's degree. It is important that you have a master‘s degree certificate BEFORE the program starts. Until that point, confirmation of your study progress provided by the university is sufficient.

What is the application process for ProTeam?

You will need to complete the online application first. Next step is the completion of an online test, followed by a video interview. The final step is your participation in our assessment center (applicant day). 

How can I prepare for the video interview?

The goal is for us to get to know each other. To give us insight into who are you as a person, and into your motivation behind why the traineeship is the perfect choice for you. Naturally, we also want to give you the opportunity to learn all about the program and us, so feel free to prepare your own questions. We are particularly interested in learning what you can contribute to the following aspects: collaboration, self-reflection, ownership, venture readiness, trust, and communication.

How can I prepare for the applicant day?

We want the day to be an opportunity to get to know you and for you to get to know us. The best way for us to get to know each other is for you to give us an honest picture of who you are. We are not interested in what is on your CV, but in the person behind it. Do you have any special interests? Are there topics you're passionate about? Do you have certain attitudes and convictions? What inspires you? You are most convincing when you know yourself well.

I haven't received any feedback on my application status. What does this mean?

As long as you haven't received a rejection from us, you are still in the process. We regularly have additional nominations.
